After Nikon announced the new NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S lens ( Amazon / B&H Photo / Adorama ), now Nikon has a total of 11 NIKKOR Z mirrorless lenses available. In late 2019, Nikon has released the updated NIKKOR Z lens roadmap, with 12 more NIKKOR Z lenses coming by 2021. At CES 2020, Nikon has displayed the size of these upcoming 12 NIKKOR. For years my preferred rig was a D300 with an 80-200/2.8, but the extra 100mm offered by a 100-400 on my Z6 would be appreciated. I'm guessing this will either be affordable and variable aperture (boo!) or expensive and a fixed f/4 Nikon was supposed to release several new Nikkor Z lenses in April, but the announcement was postponed. I received multiple tips describing the same story: Nikon is now concentrated mainly on the Z9 - they want to beat Canon and release their pro camera first (the Nikon Z9 was announced on March 9, the Canon R3 [ Nikon 80-400 - $2300. Fuji 100-400 - $1900. There's no way this lens is coming in at anywhere near $1000. I expect it to be >$2000. I suspect you're correct. It'd be cheaper for me to add a Z50 to use as a TC for my AF-P 70-300 and 300 PF than getting the 100-400 A recent issue of N-Photo gave the Tamron and Sigma 100-400 ($858.00) lenses scores of 4.5/5.00 each, so it will be interesting to see the pricing for the Nikon. If it is significantly higher, I would hope that the performance would be better &/or it will be a fixed aperture zoom

  1. The Nikkor Z lenses that had been expected and are now set to be delayed include: • the Nikon Nikkor Z 105mm Micros S; • the Nikon Nikkor Z 100-400mm S and/or Nikon Nikkor 200-600mm; and. • One or two new APS-C mirrorless lenses to complement the rumored new APS-C mirrorless camera. Some of the above lenses were initially supposed to be.
  2. The Z50 is a great travel camera with the two Z DX lenses: compact, light, versatile. I throw in an FTZ and the Nikkor 10-20mm AF-P lens and have a 15-375mm (effective) three-lens kit that is a tight fit in the very small Tenba BYOB Insert 9 bag (4 x 9 x 6). This is the camera I bought my mom (a long-time Nikon user herself)

The Tamron 100-400/4.5-6.3 is an excellent performer. Its smaller, lighter and much less expensive than the real Canon or Nikon lenses and works almost as well. It's sharp, has fast, quiet autofocus and has great image stabilization. While each of the Nikon 80-400mm VR FX and Canon 100-400mm L IS II outperform this Tamron lens under close. It fits the 100-400 attached to my D500 and a Sigma 17-50 in the main compartment. Enough room in top area for another lens or flash. Lens is incredibly fast and VC is as perfect as Tamron's other lenses, waaaay better than my Sigma 150-600. I love this so much, that I'm able to sell 2 current lenses I'd love it if the 100-400 was internal zoom but it seems unlikely given the size, if the images Nikon has put out are accurate. They show it similar to the 70-200. The Sony and Canon lenses are not internal zoom. The Sony 200-600 is internal zoom and I expect the Canon RF lens will be too.
